The resolution honors the life and legacy of John "J.D." Centilli, who passed away on November 7, 2024, at the age of 95. Born in Del Rio, Texas, on October 31, 1929, he was a talented athlete and a proud member of the Texas A&M University football team. After serving as an officer in the U.S. Air Force, he returned to Texas A&M to earn a master's degree in education. J.D. Centilli had a distinguished career as an educator, coach, and administrator, culminating in his role as assistant superintendent of schools for the Waxahachie Independent School District, where he retired in 1991. His contributions to education were recognized with his induction into the Coastal Bend Coaches Association Hall of Honor in 2000.
In addition to his professional achievements, J.D. Centilli was actively involved in his community, serving as a member of the Knights of Columbus and president of the Waxahachie Lions Club. He enjoyed hobbies such as tending to his peach orchard, welding, and woodworking, and was a devoted parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church. The resolution expresses condolences to his family, including his wife Pauline, their three sons, and other relatives and friends, while acknowledging the lasting impact of his life on those who knew him. An official copy of the resolution will be prepared for his family, and the Texas House of Representatives will adjourn in his memory.
