The resolution recognizes March 4, 2025, as Pleasanton Day at the State Capitol, honoring the residents of Pleasanton for their contributions to Texas. Established in 1858 as the county seat of Atascosa County, Pleasanton has a rich history, including its role as a key hub for cattle drivers, earning it the nickname "Birthplace of the Cowboy." Despite the county seat being moved to Jourdanton in 1910, Pleasanton has continued to thrive, maintaining its small-town charm while providing access to the amenities of the San Antonio metropolitan area.
Today, Pleasanton is home to over 11,000 residents and is known for its vibrant culture, showcased through annual events like Cowboy Heritage Days and a spirited Fourth of July festival. The local economy, while still rooted in farming and ranching, has diversified into sectors such as oil and gas, retail, and health care. The Pleasanton Independent School District and Coastal Bend College offer educational opportunities to the community, reflecting the residents' commitment to preserving their heritage while embracing future opportunities.
