The Senate of the State of Texas has passed a resolution recognizing the 40th anniversary of Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Central Texas. CASA, which originated in King County, Washington, in 1977, was founded by Judge David Soukup to mobilize community volunteers to advocate for abused and neglected children within the child protective services system. Over the years, CASA has expanded into a national network with over 90,000 volunteers across 49 states and the District of Columbia. CASA of Central Texas became part of this network in 1985, providing critical support to children in foster care during court proceedings in Caldwell, Comal, Guadalupe, and Hays Counties.
The resolution commends the dedicated staff and 27 trained volunteers of CASA of Central Texas for their unwavering commitment to advocating for the best interests of children in the legal system. Their efforts have significantly contributed to ensuring that vulnerable children receive compassionate care and a safe home. The Senate extends its best wishes for the continued success of CASA of Central Texas in their mission to support abused and neglected young Texans, and a copy of the resolution will be prepared to honor the organization on this significant milestone.
