The bill amends the definition of "emergency service provider" in the Health and Safety Code to include a broader range of individuals who provide emergency response and post-emergency response services. The updated definition now explicitly includes law enforcement officers, firefighters, emergency medical services providers, dispatchers, rescue service providers, and also extends to attorneys, investigators, and other staff members associated with the offices of district attorneys, criminal district attorneys, or county attorneys.
Additionally, the bill removes certain punctuation and clarifies the list of included professions by replacing commas with semicolons for better readability. This change aims to enhance the understanding of who qualifies as an emergency service provider for the purposes of critical incident stress management and crisis response services. The act is set to take effect on September 1, 2025.
