A passionate outdoorsman, Haynes contributed significantly to hunter education and conservation efforts, participating in various organizations and initiatives, including the Texas Kids Fish program and the establishment of the Old Sabine Bottom Texas Parks and Wildlife Management Area. He was inducted into the Texas Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame in 2019. Haynes is remembered for his devotion to his family, including his wife Sandra, two daughters, and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as his faith as a member of Green Acres Baptist Church.
