The resolution recognizes the critical importance of multimodal transportation infrastructure to the Texas economy, particularly along the US 287 corridor, which spans 754 miles and serves approximately 36 percent of the state's population. As Texas's population continues to grow, the existing transportation systems are under increasing strain, especially in this vital corridor that connects key regions and facilitates the movement of goods and people. The resolution highlights the outdated and inadequate infrastructure along US 287, which hampers economic growth and safety.
In response to these challenges, the Transportation Excellence for the 21st Century organization (TEX-21) has partnered with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) to advocate for significant improvements, including upgrading US 287 to interstate highway standards. The resolution commends TEX-21, its US 287 Corridor Coalition, and TxDOT for their commitment to enhancing transportation infrastructure in Texas. It also acknowledges their efforts in conducting the US 287 Corridor Interstate Feasibility Study, which aims to advance the safety, mobility, connectivity, and resilience of the state's transportation system. An official copy of the resolution will be prepared for TEX-21 and TxDOT as a token of appreciation from the Texas Senate.
