The resolution honors Nelson Linder for his 25 years of dedicated service as president of the Austin NAACP. Born in Macon, Georgia, Linder served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps before moving to Austin in 1981, where he completed his education in personnel management and industrial relations. He has a rich legacy of civil rights advocacy, being a descendant of one of the Original 33 Black legislators in Georgia. Linder founded the Garvey/Allen/Washington Project in 1992 to promote social justice and has been a prominent voice for the Black community, addressing issues such as police brutality, educational equity, and economic advancement.
Throughout his tenure, Linder has been recognized nationally for his efforts and has played a significant role in initiatives like the African American Quality of Life Initiative and the establishment of the African American Resource Advisory Commission. He has also engaged the community through his radio show, "Wake Up Call (Empowerment Mode)," which focuses on solutions to challenges faced by African Americans. The resolution expresses the Texas House of Representatives' deep admiration for Linder's contributions to Central Texas and extends best wishes for his continued success. An official copy of the resolution will be prepared for him as a token of high regard.
