The bill, S.B. No. 1494, amends Section 41.0052(a) of the Election Code to allow certain political subdivisions, excluding counties and municipal utility districts, to change the date of their general elections to the November uniform election date. The deadline for making this change is extended to December 31, 2026, replacing the previous deadline of December 31, 2016.

The bill will take effect immediately if it receives a two-thirds majority vote from all elected members in both houses of the legislature. If it does not achieve this majority, the bill will take effect on September 1, 2025.
