The bill amends the Government Code to establish new regulations regarding compensatory time and vacation leave for employees of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. Specifically, it stipulates that compensatory time off must be taken within a 24-month period following the end of the workweek in which it was accrued. If the compensatory time is not utilized within this timeframe, it will be credited to the employee's accumulated vacation leave instead of lapsing, as previously stated in the law.

Additionally, the bill clarifies that the amount of vacation leave accrued by employees will be governed by the new provisions in Section 659.015(k) and can be taken in accordance with the relevant subchapter. The changes made by this Act will apply to all compensatory time accrued by employees before, on, or after the effective date of the Act, which is set for September 1, 2025.
