The resolution honors the H. E. Butt Foundation for its significant contributions to the well-being of Texans through various charitable initiatives since its establishment in 1933 by Mary Holdsworth Butt and Howard Butt Sr. The foundation has focused on improving literacy, mental health care, and providing recreational opportunities, including camps and ecumenical Christian retreats. Under the leadership of the Butt family across three generations, the foundation has expanded its efforts to address health disparities and promote mental and spiritual wellness, while also developing new programs and initiatives aimed at youth and family development.
The H. E. Butt Foundation operates the 1,900-acre H. E. Butt Foundation Camp, which serves over 15,000 individuals annually, particularly those who may not otherwise have access to such experiences. Additional programs include the Outdoor School, which collaborates with San Antonio public schools, and Laity Lodge, a retreat space for reflection and the arts. The resolution expresses the Texas House of Representatives' high regard for the foundation's nearly century-long commitment to fostering the physical, mental, and spiritual well-being of young people and families in Texas. An official copy of the resolution will be prepared for the foundation as a token of appreciation.
