Senate Resolution No. 89 honors the life and legacy of Elizabeth Ann Seligman McCarty, who passed away on November 7, 2024, at the age of 72. Born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on September 29, 1952, Betty graduated from Highland High School and earned her nursing degree from the University of New Mexico. She began her nursing career at MD Anderson Cancer Hospital in Houston, where she met her husband, Christopher McCarty. After relocating to Brenham, she continued her nursing work at various clinics and medical centers, while also serving as the mobile district director for State Senator Lois Kolkhorst and as the campaign accountant for Kolkhorst.

Betty was a dedicated mother to her children, Thomas and Molly, and a loving grandmother to her four grandchildren. She was known for her generosity, joyful spirit, and commitment to her community, as well as her passion for caring for injured wildlife. The resolution expresses heartfelt condolences to her family and acknowledges the cherished memories she leaves behind. The Texas Senate adopted this resolution on March 26, 2025, as a tribute to her life and contributions.
