Throughout her life, she had a successful career in education and entrepreneurship, teaching at various schools and co-founding several businesses, including a craft consignment shop and a coffee and tea shop.

Mary Newton was also actively involved in her community, serving on the board of the Bryan/College Station Chamber of Commerce and participating in various philanthropic efforts. She was known for her generosity, outgoing nature, and dedication to her family.
