H.B. No. 2607 amends the terms of the members of the board of hospital managers and leasing authority of the Walker County Hospital District. The bill establishes that managers will serve staggered four-year terms, with the terms of two or three managers expiring each even-numbered year. This replaces the previous provision that allowed for two-year terms unless four-year terms were established under a different section of the Health and Safety Code.
Additionally, the bill allows the district to lease all or part of its property, including hospital system buildings and facilities, on terms deemed to be in the district's best interest. The maximum term for such leases is extended from 40 years to 80 years. The bill is set to take effect immediately upon receiving a two-thirds vote from both houses or on September 1, 2025, if that vote is not achieved.
