Senate Resolution No. 62 recognizes February 18 and 19, 2025, as El Paso Days in Austin, celebrating the city's unique position at the convergence of two countries and three states. El Paso, along with its sister city Juárez, forms the largest binational metroplex in the Western Hemisphere, serving as a significant hub for economic development and trade, with its ports handling about 20 percent of Texas' total trade activity. The El Paso Chamber has played a crucial role in promoting economic prosperity for over 125 years, and the city has recently received accolades for its innovative workforce programs and commitment to sustainable growth. Additionally, El Paso is designated as a Great American Defense Community, supporting military personnel and veterans, and is home to key military installations, further enhancing its economic and community contributions.
The resolution also highlights El Paso's educational institutions, including the University of Texas at El Paso, which has achieved R1 research designation, and Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso, which houses the region's only Level I Trauma Center. The region is driving innovation and economic expansion through investments in advanced manufacturing, aerospace, and defense, positioning itself as a leader in global supply chains. El Paso's rich heritage and the pride of its citizens are acknowledged, culminating in the Senate's warm welcome to the visiting delegation during El Paso Days.
