H.B. No. 2529 amends Section 26.006(a) of the Government Code to establish that county judges are entitled to an annual salary supplement from the state, which is set at 18 percent of the annual salary paid to a district judge with comparable years of service. This amendment specifies that the salary supplement is applicable if at least 18 percent of the functions performed by the county judge are judicial functions or if at least 18 percent of the total hours worked are dedicated to judicial functions.

The bill also stipulates that the changes in law will only apply to salary payments for pay periods beginning on or after the effective date of the Act, which is set for September 1, 2025. Any salary payments for pay periods that start before this date will continue to be governed by the existing law.
