The bill amends the Texas Election Code to establish new provisions for the cancellation of a person's voter registration upon notice that the individual has acknowledged they are not a citizen. Specifically, it adds a new condition under which a registrar must cancel a voter’s registration immediately upon receiving a list of individuals excused or disqualified from jury service due to citizenship status that includes the voter. This new provision is inserted as Section 16.031(a)(8). Additionally, the bill requires that the registrar deliver written notice of the cancellation to the voter within 30 days of the cancellation under this new section, as well as under existing provisions.
Furthermore, the bill mandates that the registrar submit an annual statement to the secretary of state detailing the total number of registrations canceled under the new provision (Section 16.031(a)(8)) along with other existing cancellation reasons. It also updates the Government Code to ensure that lists of individuals disqualified due to citizenship are sent to relevant officials, including the county official responsible for administering elections. The bill is set to take effect on September 1, 2025.
