The resolution honors Susan Christian for her retirement as the director of the Houston Mayor's Office of Special Events, a position she held for nearly four decades. Ms. Christian began her career with the Houston Parks and Recreation Department in 1985 and was instrumental in establishing the Mayor's Office of Special Events in 1992. Throughout her tenure, she has organized numerous significant events, including the July 4th Freedom Over Texas celebration and all eight of Houston's national sports championship victory parades. Additionally, she played a key role in hosting major national and international tournaments, such as the NFL Super Bowl and FIFA World Cup games.
Beyond her event management contributions, Ms. Christian co-founded Houston Civic Events, Inc. in 2015, focusing on mentorship and educational partnerships to develop local talent. She has also been active on various boards and committees, contributing to the community's cultural and social fabric. A graduate of Texas Christian University, she is supported by her partner and two sons.
