The resolution commemorates February 4, 2025, as McAllen Day at the Texas State Capitol, celebrating the rich history and vibrant community of McAllen, Texas. Founded in 1797 by Spanish settler Jose Manuel Gomez, McAllen has evolved from the Santa Anita Ranch into a thriving city, particularly after the arrival of the St. Louis, Brownsville and Mexico Railroad in 1904. The establishment of the McAllen Townsite Company and subsequent growth led to a population of around 6,000 by 1920. Over the past fifty years, McAllen has become a significant center for business and commerce in the Rio Grande Valley, boasting one of the lowest property tax rates in the region and recognition as one of the fastest-growing metropolitan areas in the U.S.

In addition to its economic achievements, McAllen is celebrated for its natural beauty, cultural attractions, and quality of life. The city is home to Quinta Mazatlan, a notable estate and birding habitat, and has been recognized as a Music Friendly Community by the Texas Music Office, promoting further economic development in the music industry. U.S. News & World Report has ranked McAllen highly for livability, and SmartAsset named it one of the safest cities in America. The resolution expresses pride in McAllen's contributions to Texas and extends best wishes to the visiting delegation for their time in Austin.
