S.B. No. 523 amends the Transportation Code to allow certain law enforcement professionals, specifically parole officers, peace officers, probation officers, and prosecutors, to obtain a driver's license that includes an alternative to their residence address. The bill updates the definition of these roles and specifies that the alternative address can be the office address for parole and probation officers, as well as for prosecutors. The bill also clarifies that peace officers can use an address within their municipality or county of residence or employment.

Additionally, the bill mandates that if a license holder with an alternative address changes their residence or office address, or their name, they must notify the department within 30 days. The department is required to accept the specified office addresses as valid alternative addresses for the aforementioned law enforcement professionals. This legislation is set to take effect on September 1, 2025.
