S.B. No. 487 amends the Code of Criminal Procedure to enhance the confidentiality protections for victims of specific offenses. The bill updates the heading of Subchapter D, Chapter 58, to include "stalking, invasive visual recording, or indecent assault" as offenses that warrant confidentiality for the victims' identifying information. Additionally, it revises Article 58.151 to define a "victim" as someone who is the subject of these offenses, as well as any related offenses that occur within the same criminal episode.

The bill also removes the previous reference to stalking under Section 42.072, Penal Code, from the definition of a victim, thereby broadening the scope of offenses covered under this confidentiality provision. This legislation is set to take effect on September 1, 2025, following its passage in both the Senate and the House with unanimous support.
