H.B. No. 1332 amends the Education Code to enhance school district policies regarding dating violence. The bill requires each school district to include a policy on dating violence in their district improvement plan, which must be developed and revised annually. This policy must define dating violence, state that it is not tolerated in schools, and establish protocols for reporting and responding to incidents. Notably, the bill introduces a requirement for school districts to notify the parents or guardians of students identified as victims of dating violence before informing the parents of the alleged perpetrators. Additionally, it mandates interim measures to protect and support victims during the disciplinary process.

The bill also updates the existing requirements for school district improvement plans by adding provisions for trauma-informed care and the newly mandated dating violence policy. School districts are required to implement these policies by the beginning of the 2025-2026 school year. The act will take effect immediately if it receives a two-thirds vote from both houses; otherwise, it will take effect on September 1, 2025.
