The bill amends Section 25.0344 of the Education Code to facilitate the transfer of public school students who are children of certain public servants. The definition of eligible public servants has been expanded to include not only peace officers and servicemembers but also prosecuting attorneys and various judicial officers, such as federal and state judges. The language clarifies that a "parent" includes individuals standing in a parental relationship to the student, and it specifies that the transfer request must be made by the parent, who can select the desired campus or school district for the transfer.

Additionally, the bill states that school districts are not required to provide transportation for students who transfer under this provision. The changes will take effect starting with the 2025-2026 school year, and the bill will prevail over any conflicting legislation from the 89th Legislature. The act can take effect immediately if it receives a two-thirds majority vote in both houses; otherwise, it will take effect on September 1, 2025.
