H.B. No. 1237 amends the Texas Water Code to modify the renewal process for certain expired occupational licenses and registrations. The bill allows individuals whose licenses or registrations have been expired for not more than 90 days to apply for renewal by paying a fee that does not exceed 1.5 times the standard renewal fee. Additionally, these individuals may engage in activities requiring a license or registration while their renewal application is pending. For those whose licenses have been expired for at least 90 days but not more than 180 days, they can apply for renewal with a fee up to two times the normal amount.

Furthermore, the bill establishes that individuals whose licenses or registrations have been expired for at least 180 days are ineligible for renewal and must obtain a new license or registration by fulfilling the original licensing requirements, including any necessary examinations. This legislation is set to take effect on September 1, 2025.
