Senate Bill No. 305 amends Section 545.157(a) of the Transportation Code to clarify the types of vehicles to which certain passing regulations apply on highways. The bill specifies that the regulations now include vehicles operated by animal control officers for the purpose of removing animals or animal carcasses from roadways, as well as vehicles operated by local authority employees for issuing parking citations. Both of these new categories must use visual signals that comply with established standards.
Additionally, the bill removes the previous requirement that only certain vehicles were applicable under this section, thereby expanding the scope of vehicles that must be considered when passing on highways. The changes aim to enhance safety and ensure that drivers are aware of the presence of these vehicles on the road. The Act is set to take effect on September 1, 2025.
