The bill, S.B. No. 183, amends the Education Code by adding a new section, 22.0031, which provides classroom teachers with the right to take up to two days of personal leave to testify at public hearings held by local, state, or federal governmental entities. This leave is in addition to any other leave days provided under Section 22.003 or by individual school districts. Importantly, the days taken for this purpose will not be deducted from the teacher's accumulated personal leave.

The provisions of this bill will take effect starting with the 2025-2026 school year. It will become effective immediately if it receives a two-thirds majority vote from all elected members in both houses; otherwise, it will take effect on September 1, 2025.
