SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 57
       WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Mark Majek, who is retiring as director of operations
after a remarkable tenure of service with the Texas Board of
Nursing; and
 
       WHEREAS, Mark Majek joined the Texas Board of Nursing more
than three decades ago, and over the course of his career, he has
demonstrated an unwavering commitment to the board's mission and
to promoting the well-being of all Texans; and
 
       WHEREAS, Among his many accomplishments, Mark oversaw the
development of two key nurse licensure databases, and he was
instrumental in expanding the board's customer service division
in response to the increased demand for information during
statewide emergencies; he established special licensing
processes to aid in the recruitment of nurses and the expansion
of health care services along the coast after Hurricane Harvey,
and his leadership and prudent judgment were crucial in managing
the influx of nursing professionals to the state in the wake of
Hurricane Katrina; and
 
       WHEREAS, Changes he implemented enabled the agency to
transition to a paperless licensing process, which proved timely
at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, and his contributions to
the board's operations were critical to efforts to bolster the
state's workforce of nurses; during this period of public fear
and uncertainty, Mark steadfastly guided his staff in operations
and led the charge in disseminating information to members of the
public that helped to minimize tension and establish
transparency; and
 
       WHEREAS, Mark's expertise and years of experience also
included shaping nursing regulation at the national level, and he
served the National Council of State Boards of Nursing on
numerous committees and in a number of leadership positions,
including as chair of the licensure verification task force and
as Area III director on the council's board of directors; and
 
       WHEREAS, Mark's wisdom and discernment in policy formation
and administration were an invaluable asset to the board, and he
assisted his colleagues during many legislative sessions in such
matters as developing priorities for legislative appropriations
requests and responding to questions from the legislature
regarding the agency's funding; and
 
       WHEREAS, Over the years, Mark has upheld the highest values
of the Texas Board of Nursing and has exhibited exemplary
leadership, diligence, and dedication; he has earned the respect
and admiration of his colleagues, legislative officials, and
members of the nursing profession, and it is truly fitting that
he receive special recognition on his many contributions to the
Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it
 
       RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby commend Mark Majek on his
distinguished career and his outstanding service to the Texas
Board of Nursing and extend to him congratulations on his
retirement and best wishes for the future; and, be it further
 
       RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
