H.R. No. 62
 
 
R E S O L U T I O N
       WHEREAS, Christian Torres of Pharr received the
Entrepreneurship Award from the Governor's Committee on People with
Disabilities at its Lex Frieden Employment Awards ceremony on
October 26, 2023; and
       WHEREAS, Each October, in conjunction with National
Disability Employment Awareness Month, the Governor's Committee
recognizes Texans who have dedicated themselves to empowering their
employees, co-workers, and fellow Texans with disabilities; the
awards program is named in tribute to disability rights expert Lex
Frieden, one of the chief architects of the Americans with
Disabilities Act; and
       WHEREAS, The Entrepreneurship Award is presented to an
individual with a disability who has shown extraordinary ingenuity
and drive in establishing and sustaining a successful business that
creates jobs and accessible services for others; and
       WHEREAS, Mr. Torres is the owner and founder of Christian's
Cookie House, which provides stuffed cookies and other sweets to
Texans in the Rio Grande Valley; he is a member of numerous
community organizations, and he makes contributions to charitable
causes across the area; and
       WHEREAS, Christian Torres has distinguished himself as an
inspiring example of the entrepreneurial spirit of the Lone Star
State, and he is richly deserving of this prestigious honor; now,
therefore, be it
       RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby congratulate Christian
Torres on receiving the 2023 Entrepreneurship Award from the
Governor's Committee on People with Disabilities Lex Frieden
Employment Awards program and extend to him sincere best wishes for
continued success; and, be it further
       RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Torres as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
