SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 24
 
 
In Memory
of
Joseph Claude Martin III
 
       WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
commemorates the life of Joseph Claude Martin III, who died on
October 29, 2023, at the age of 82; and
       WHEREAS, Joe Martin III was born on May 3, 1941; a
descendent of some of the oldest families in South Texas, Joe was
raised in Laredo; his family was deeply rooted in the economic
life of the region, especially in ranching, commerce, and
politics, and he would go on to continue this legacy; and
       WHEREAS, After completing his education, Joe began working
in the insurance business and in real estate development in
Laredo; he also became involved in ranching, construction, and
oil and gas exploration, and he found great success and
fulfillment in his various professional pursuits; and
       WHEREAS, Blessed with remarkable leadership abilities, Mr.
Martin served on a number of professional boards and
organizations, including as a trustee of the Bruni Mineral Trust;
following in his father's and grandfather's footsteps, he also
served as a co-trustee of the Lamar Bruni Vergara Trust and as a
board member of the Laredo National Bank; and
       WHEREAS, A highly esteemed member of his community, Joe
forged many lasting friendships throughout his life; he took
great pleasure in wing shooting and in traveling, and he enjoyed
serving his fellow citizens through his civic endeavors; and
       WHEREAS, Joe was a devoted father to his four children,
Michelle, Melissa, Joseph, and Albert; he was a loving
grandfather to his six grandchildren and to his two
great-grandchildren, and his life was immeasurably enriched
through his relationship with his cherished partner, Rita K.
Peters; and
       WHEREAS, Joe was a man of strength, wisdom, and
determination, and his compassion, his generous spirit, and his
dedication to serving others were evident to all who knew him; he
leaves behind precious memories that will be forever treasured by
his family and friends and by all who were privileged to share in
his life; now, therefore, be it
       RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby extend sincere
condolences to the bereaved family of Joseph Claude Martin III;
and, be it further
       RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
memory of Joe Martin III.
