SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1
|
 
|
             WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
 
|
recognize Augustin Rivera Jr. on receiving the 2023 |
 
|
Distinguished Citizen of the Year Award from the South Texas |
 
|
Council Boy Scouts of America; and |
  |
 
|
             WHEREAS, Each year, the South Texas Council Boy Scouts of |
 
|
America recognizes an individual who has demonstrated |
 
|
outstanding leadership abilities and has made significant |
 
|
positive contributions to the Coastal Bend community; and |
  |
 
|
             WHEREAS, This year, Augie Rivera will be honored at the |
 
|
Distinguished Citizen Award Dinner, which will be held on |
 
|
November 30, 2023; a lifelong resident of South Texas, Augie |
 
|
served as the South Texas Council Boy Scouts of America |
 
|
Centennial Board President in 2019 and as a volunteer youth |
 
|
baseball, basketball, and chess coach and in a wide range of |
 
|
scouting roles; still active in the program, he volunteers at |
 
|
local and national levels; and |
  |
 
|
             WHEREAS, A graduate of Yale University and Stanford Law |
 
|
School, Augie practiced as a civil trial and appellate lawyer for |
 
|
more than 28 years before joining the Del Mar College District, |
 
|
where he serves as general counsel and is a member of the |
 
|
president's executive team; as an attorney, he has upheld the |
 
|
highest standards of his profession, and he has earned local, |
 
|
state, and national recognition for his achievements and his |
 
|
contributions to the field of law; and |
  |
 
|
             WHEREAS, Augie has served on the boards of a number of |
 
|
agencies and professional and nonprofit organizations, including |
 
|
those of the Ethics Commission of the City of Corpus Christi, the |
 
|
Corpus Christi Housing Authority, South Texas Broadcasting, |
 
|
Incorporated, and the Texas A&M--Corpus Christi Foundation; he |
 
|
currently serves as chair of the  Texas Board of Law Examiners and |
 
|
sits on the boards of the National Conference of Bar Examiners |
 
|
and the National Association of College and University |
 
|
Attorneys; and |
  |
 
|
             WHEREAS, A man of wisdom and integrity, Augie is a source |
 
|
of inspiration to former and future scouts and is a recipient of |
 
|
the organization's Silver Beaver Award; he is a devoted husband |
 
|
to the Honorable Julianna Siracusa Rivera and a proud father to |
 
|
four former scouts, including two Eagle Scouts; he has benefited |
 
|
countless Texans through his generosity and his service to his |
 
|
community, and he is indeed deserving of special recognition for |
 
|
his many positive contributions to South Texas; now, therefore, |
 
|
be it |
  |
 
|
             RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |
 
|
Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby commend Augie Rivera Jr. |
 
|
on earning the 2023 Distinguished Citizen of the Year Award from |
 
|
the South Texas Council Boy Scouts of America and extend to him |
 
|
best wishes in all his future endeavors; and, be it further |
  |
 
|
             RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
 
|
him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
