A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
relating to a heat stress safety policy for outdoor athletic |
|
activities at public schools. |
|
       BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
       SECTION 1.  Subchapter F, Chapter 33, Education Code, is |
|
amended by adding Section 33.2055 to read as follows: |
|
       Sec. 33.2055.  HEAT STRESS SAFETY POLICY REQUIRED FOR |
|
OUTDOOR ATHLETIC ACTIVITIES. (a) A school district or |
|
open-enrollment charter school that offers an extracurricular |
|
athletic activity that includes outdoor practices or competitions |
|
shall adopt a heat stress safety policy for outdoor athletic |
|
activities to protect student athletes from heat-related injury. |
|
The policy must include criteria for taking appropriate protective |
|
measures based on the wet-bulb globe temperature at the location of |
|
the activity. |
|
       (b)  Any organization, company, or other entity using a |
|
school district or open-enrollment charter school facility for an |
|
outdoor athletic activity shall comply with the district's or |
|
school's policy adopted under Subsection (a). |
|
       SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect on the 91st day after the |
|
last day of the legislative session. |
