H.C.R. No. 26
 
 
HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
       WHEREAS, Elwood Freeman, the president of Lamesa National
Bank, was honored by the Texas Bankers Association in April 2023 for
his more than 75 years in the banking industry; and
       WHEREAS, Mr. Freeman began his career at First National Bank
of Aspermont in 1944, and he went on to accept a position at First
National Bank in Rotan; he later answered his nation's call to duty
by serving in the U.S. Army for two years during the Korean War;
following his military service, he studied finance at Texas Tech
University while working part-time at the First National Bank in
Lubbock, which employed him full-time once he had earned his
bachelor's degree in 1957; he joined Lamesa National Bank in 1966 as
executive vice president, and after seven years in that role, he was
promoted to president; he has served the company in that position in
the five decades since; and
       WHEREAS, Active in his community, Mr. Freeman has been
involved in a number of civic organizations over the years, and he
has served as president of the Lamesa Area Chamber of Commerce and
the Lamesa Rotary Club and as a board member of the Medical Arts
Hospital, the Bill and Elwanda Weaver Foundation, the First
Methodist Church of Lamesa, FNB Aspermont, and the Texas Tech
Foundation; among his many accolades, he has received a 50-year
Banker Award from the Texas Bankers Association, the 1988
Distinguished Service Award at the Bankers Agricultural Credit
Conference, and the Banker of the Year Award at the Texas
Agricultural Credit Conference; and
       WHEREAS, Through his leadership, hard work, and commitment to
excellence, Elwood Freeman has greatly benefited the colleagues and
clients he has served over the course of his long career in banking,
and he may indeed take well-deserved pride in his professional
achievements; now, therefore, be it
       RESOLVED, That the 88th Legislature of the State of Texas,
3rd Called Session, hereby honor Elwood Freeman for his more than 75
years of service in banking and extend to him sincere best wishes
for continued success; and, be it further
       RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Freeman as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
