R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
       WHEREAS, Madison Swain achieved great distinction with her |
|
exceptional performance in the 2023 Miss Juneteenth USA Pageant, |
|
which took place in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on October 14, |
|
2023; and |
|
       WHEREAS, Established in 2020, the National Miss Juneteenth |
|
Scholarship Pageant Program promotes community service, education, |
|
and cultural awareness while celebrating Juneteenth, a holiday |
|
commemorating the end of slavery in the United States; the program |
|
provides African American youth from across the country with the |
|
opportunity to earn scholarship prizes, and the Miss Juneteenth USA |
|
pageant is open to young women ages 15 to 18; and |
|
       WHEREAS, Ms. Swain represented Texas at the 2023 Miss |
|
Juneteenth USA Pageant, where she was named first runner-up; she |
|
also took home first place in the talent portion of the contest and |
|
second place for her essay; she was previously crowned |
|
Ms. Juneteenth at the Juneteenth Development Inc. Scholarship Gala |
|
in Galveston County, and over the course of her reign, she has |
|
participated in events such as Galveston's Juneteenth parade, and |
|
she has visited schools and churches to speak with young people; and |
|
       WHEREAS, A skilled dancer, Ms. Swain previously served as |
|
colonel of the Stingarette Drill Team at Texas City High School, and |
|
following her graduation, she was recruited by the award-winning |
|
Buccaneers Dance Team at Blinn College in Brenham; she plans to |
|
pursue a career as a dance teacher; and |
|
       WHEREAS, Through her participation in the 2023 Miss |
|
Juneteenth USA Pageant, Madison Swain has served as an inspiring |
|
role model and ambassador for the Lone Star State, and it is a |
|
pleasure to honor her for this notable achievement; now, therefore, |
|
be it |
|
       RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate Madison Swain |
|
on being named the first runner-up at the 2023 Miss Juneteenth USA |
|
Pageant and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued |
|
success; and, be it further |
|
       RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Ms. Swain as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
