A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to a universal screening process for a school district's |
|
|
program for gifted and talented students. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 29.122, Education Code, is amended by |
|
|
adding Subsection (a-1) to read as follows: |
|
|
(a-1) A school district shall, if feasible, use the |
|
|
universal screening process adopted under Subsection (a) to screen |
|
|
each second grade student enrolled in the district to identify |
|
|
gifted and talented students for the district's program. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2023-2024 |
|
|
school year. |
|
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
|
Act takes effect on the 91st day after the last day of the |
|
|
legislative session. |
