A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
relating to review of advanced placement courses by the State Board |
|
of Education and to the advanced placement courses and examinations |
|
that may be offered by school districts. |
|
       BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
       SECTION 1.  Section 28.009, Education Code, is amended by |
|
adding Subsections (a-6) and (a-7) to read as follows: |
|
       (a-6)  The State Board of Education shall review any advanced |
|
placement course offered for compliance with: |
|
             (1)  the school laws of this state; and |
|
             (2)  the essential knowledge and skills adopted by the |
|
board. |
|
       (a-7)  A school district may only offer advanced placement |
|
courses that comply with: |
|
             (1)  the school laws of this state; and |
|
             (2)  the essential knowledge and skills adopted by the |
|
State Board of Education. |
|
       SECTION 2.  Section 28.023, Education Code, is amended by |
|
adding Subsection (a-1) to read as follows: |
|
       (a-1)  For purposes of this section, a board of trustees may |
|
approve only an advanced placement examination that is for an |
|
advanced placement course offered in accordance with Section |
|
28.009. |
|
       SECTION 3.  This Act applies beginning with the 2024-2025 |
|
school year. |
|
       SECTION 4.  This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution.  If this |
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
Act takes effect on the 91st day after the last day of the |
|
legislative session. |
