R E S O L U T I O N
|
 
|
             WHEREAS, Emmett Schelling has been a leader in the fight for |
 
|
social justice for members of the LGBTQIA+ communities in Texas, |
 
|
and his efforts have made a positive difference in numerous lives; |
 
|
and |
 
|
             WHEREAS, Mr.  Schelling is the executive director of the |
 
|
Transgender Education Network of Texas (TENT), a nonprofit |
 
|
organization dedicated to furthering gender-diverse equality; in |
 
|
that role, he advocates at the municipal and state levels in behalf |
 
|
of individuals who identify as transgender or as gender |
 
|
nonconforming, and he promotes equity through a variety of |
 
|
educational programs for political leaders, medical and legal |
 
|
professionals, social workers, students, and parents; and |
 
|
             WHEREAS, In addition to his work with TENT, Mr.  Schelling |
 
|
serves on the Transform Houston Community Council and the Deeds Not |
 
|
Words board, and he is codirector of TransFORWARD, a statewide |
 
|
transgender-focused research collective; he previously served as |
 
|
president of the San Antonio Gender Association; over the course of |
 
|
his career, he has been featured in numerous media outlets, |
 
|
including Newsweek, Refinery29, The Hill, Slate, and HuffPost; and |
 
|
             WHEREAS, Through his myriad endeavors, Emmett Schelling has |
 
|
helped further inclusion and equality in the Lone Star State, and he |
 
|
may indeed reflect with pride on his many noteworthy |
 
|
accomplishments; now, therefore, be it |
 
|
             RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |
 
|
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby commend Emmett Schelling |
 
|
for his service to the LGBTQIA+ communities of Texas and extend to |
 
|
him sincere best wishes for continued success in his important |
 
|
work; and, be it further |
 
|
             RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
 
|
prepared for Mr.  Schelling as an expression of high regard by the |
 
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
