Senate Bill 2688 amends Chapter 32 of the Private Acts of 2009 concerning the charter of the City of Adamsville. The bill specifically deletes Section 2.09 in its entirety and replaces it with new provisions regarding vacancies in the offices of the Mayor or City Commissioner. Under the new language, a vacancy is declared if the mayor or a commissioner resigns, dies, relocates outside the city, or is removed from office. Additionally, individuals convicted of malfeasance, misfeasance, a felony, or a crime involving moral turpitude are prohibited from holding office for ten years. The remaining city commissioners are tasked with appointing a qualified individual to fill the vacancy until the next regular city election, and if they fail to do so within 45 days, the mayor must make the appointment within 15 days.

The bill stipulates that it will only take effect if approved by a two-thirds vote of the legislative body of the City of Adamsville, with the outcome being certified to the secretary of state. For the purpose of approving or rejecting the provisions of this act, it will become effective upon becoming law, while other provisions will take effect as outlined in Section 2.
