House Bill 2192, also known as Senate Bill 2685, amends the Tennessee Code Annotated to introduce regulations regarding the use of certain chemical ingredients in food products intended for human consumption. The bill defines a "chemical ingredient" and lists numerous substances, including various food colorings, preservatives, and additives that are not recommended for human consumption by the FDA. It mandates that any food product containing these chemical ingredients must have a warning label affixed, stating: "WARNING: This product contains a chemical ingredient that is not recommended for human consumption by the FDA." The warning label must be prominently displayed and also included on the retailer's website.

Additionally, the bill outlines exceptions to the labeling requirement, such as for products not intended for human consumption, those used in restaurants or retail establishments, and items regulated by the USDA. It also specifies that if federal laws or regulations address the use of a chemical ingredient, the state law will be preempted. The provisions of this act are set to take effect on January 1, 2027.
