Senate Bill 2105 amends Tennessee education law to establish guidelines for the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in public charter schools and local school boards. A new subsection is added to Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 49-13-118, requiring each public charter school to publish its governing board's policy on AI usage for instructional and assignment purposes on its website. Additionally, Section 49-2-203(a) is revised to mandate that local school boards adopt a similar policy regarding AI use, which must be implemented by the 2024-2025 school year.

The bill also stipulates that by July 1, 2024, and annually thereafter, school boards must report their compliance with the AI policy to the Department of Education, including the adopted policy and enforcement strategies for the upcoming school year. The definition of "artificial intelligence" is provided, emphasizing its capabilities in making predictions and decisions based on human-defined objectives. Furthermore, local school boards are directed to ensure that their AI policy is published on each school's website. The act is set to take effect on July 1, 2026.
