Senate Bill 2255, also known as House Bill 2389, amends Tennessee Code Annotated to establish new reporting requirements regarding the use of psychotropic medications within the TennCare program. The bill mandates the Bureau of TennCare, in collaboration with the Department of Health and the Department of Children's Services, to publish comprehensive statewide data reports on psychotropic medication usage and associated costs. The first report is due by January 1, 2027, and subsequent reports will be published biannually. These reports will categorize data by age groups, the number of medications prescribed, county of residence, and total costs, while ensuring compliance with privacy laws by presenting the data in aggregate and de-identified form.

Additionally, the second report will focus specifically on children in state custody and young adults receiving foster care services who are prescribed psychotropic medications. It will include similar categorizations as the first report, detailing the number of medications prescribed and associated costs. The Bureau is also authorized to create rules to implement these reporting requirements in accordance with the Uniform Administrative Procedures Act. The act will take effect upon becoming law, emphasizing the importance of monitoring psychotropic medication use among vulnerable populations in Tennessee.
