House Bill 2122 amends the existing legal framework governing the office of the County Attorney for Hamblen County. The bill deletes the previous Section 1 and replaces it with a new provision that establishes the County Attorney as an elected position, to be chosen annually by the Hamblen County Commission during their September meeting. Additionally, the bill removes the former Section 3 and introduces a new section that outlines the compensation structure for the County Attorney, which includes an annual retainer fee of $1,200, payable in monthly installments. The County Attorney is also entitled to additional compensation for legal services rendered and reimbursement for expenses, subject to review by the County Legislative Body.

The bill stipulates that it will only take effect if approved by a two-thirds vote of the Hamblen County legislative body, with the presiding officer responsible for certifying the outcome to the secretary of state. While the act will become effective immediately for the purpose of approval, it will only be fully effective as outlined in the provisions of Section 3 for all other purposes.
