Senate Joint Resolution 664, sponsored by Oliver, honors and commends the Nashville Electric Service (NES) line workers and civil service employees from both State and Metro Nashville for their exceptional efforts during Winter Storm Fern, which struck Nashville on January 24, 2026. The storm brought severe weather conditions, including snow, sleet, and freezing rain, resulting in widespread power outages affecting approximately 230,000 NES customers. In response to this unprecedented crisis, NES significantly increased its workforce, mobilizing hundreds of line workers from various states to restore power under perilous conditions.

The resolution acknowledges the dedication and bravery of these workers, who faced extreme cold and hazardous circumstances to ensure the safety and well-being of their fellow citizens. It also recognizes the critical roles played by civil service employees from Metro Nashville and state agencies, including the Office of Emergency Management and the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency, in managing the emergency response. The General Assembly expresses its sincere gratitude and appreciation for the tireless efforts of these heroic individuals during a time of great peril for the community.
