House Bill 1974, also known as Senate Bill 2285, amends Tennessee Code Annotated to enhance safety measures in public schools regarding students who are subject to orders of protection. The bill mandates that if an order of protection is issued to safeguard a student from another student within the same public school, the principal must remove the respondent student from any shared classroom or school-sponsored event with the petitioner. This removal is required for the duration of the order of protection.

Additionally, the bill stipulates that the school or school district must provide alternative instruction for the respondent student for any classes or courses from which they are removed. The provisions of this act will take effect upon becoming law and will apply to orders of protection issued on or after that date.
