House Bill 1912, also known as Senate Bill 2529, amends Tennessee law to enhance roadside facilities for motorists by introducing provisions related to adult-sized changing tables in rest areas and welcome centers. The bill defines an "adult-sized changing table" as a powered, height-adjustable platform located in a single occupancy family restroom. It mandates that if a rest area or welcome center is equipped with such a changing table, the Department of Transportation must install a sign or marker indicating its availability. This sign must either be a new installation or an addition to existing signage, and it should be placed on the interstate system and state highways near the facility.
Additionally, the bill allows the Department of Transportation to collaborate with the Department of Tourist Development for the manufacturing and installation of these signs. All symbols, signs, and markers must comply with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) and relevant state guidelines. Furthermore, the Department is required to publish a list of locations that feature adult-sized changing tables on its website. The provisions of this act are set to take effect on July 1, 2026.
