Senate Bill 2447 amends Tennessee Code Annotated, specifically Section 62-2-401(a), to introduce a new pathway for obtaining a certificate of registration for engineers. The bill allows graduates of an ABET ETAC accredited engineering technology curriculum of four years or more to qualify for examination if they meet certain criteria. These include being approved by the board as satisfactory, providing written professional references from three registered engineers in good standing, and passing an examination on the fundamentals of engineering. Additionally, applicants must demonstrate eight years of progressive experience on engineering projects under the supervision of a licensed professional engineer.

The bill stipulates that upon meeting these requirements and passing the necessary examinations, applicants will be granted a certificate of registration to practice engineering in Tennessee, provided they are otherwise qualified. The act will take effect upon becoming law for the purpose of promulgating rules, while all other provisions will take effect on July 1, 2026.
