Senate Bill 2050, also known as "Katherine's Law," amends Tennessee Code Annotated, Title 39, to establish a new offense of aggravated domestic assault. Under this bill, a person is guilty of aggravated domestic assault if they intentionally or knowingly commit an assault against a domestic abuse victim, as defined in existing law, and the assault either involves the use or display of a deadly weapon or strangulation, and results in serious bodily injury or death to another person. This new classification of aggravated domestic assault is designated as a Class B felony.

The bill specifies that the new provisions will take effect on July 1, 2026, and will apply to offenses occurring on or after that date. This legislative change aims to enhance the legal framework surrounding domestic violence and provide stronger penalties for severe cases of assault against domestic abuse victims.
