Senate Bill 2150, also known as House Bill 2123, amends Tennessee Code Annotated regarding private elevators. The bill introduces a new definition for "private residence," which refers to a dwelling for a single family or a unit in a multi-family dwelling that is not open to the public. Additionally, it establishes that all newly constructed private residence elevators must be registered with the relevant department within seven days of being placed in service, and any change in ownership of the property must be reported within sixty days.

Furthermore, the bill modifies the existing inspection requirements for elevators by specifying that certain inspections do not apply to private residence elevators. The changes will take effect upon becoming law for rule promulgation purposes, while the provisions related to private residence elevators will be effective starting July 1, 2027.
