House Bill 1838 amends Tennessee Code Annotated to expand the scope of career readiness assessments for high school students. Specifically, it changes the requirement from "each high school senior" to "each student in any of the grades nine through twelve (9-12)" and establishes that these assessments will be conducted "each school year" rather than just in the 2023-2024 school year and subsequent years.

Additionally, the bill introduces a new provision requiring the board of regents to create a standard framework for providing transcribable credit to students who earn credentials on nationally recognized career readiness assessments taken during high school. This credit can be applied toward the attainment of a postsecondary degree. The act is set to take effect on July 1, 2026.
