Additionally, the bill specifies that if an applicant chooses not to apply for a REAL ID compliant license, staff must assist in processing the application for a non-REAL ID compliant license. Notably, the new provisions do not apply to those renewing an existing REAL ID compliant license. The department's website will also feature a clear statement indicating that obtaining a REAL ID compliant driver license is optional. The act is set to take effect on July 1, 2026.
