Senate Bill 1572, known as the "Safe Highways and Roads Enforcement (SHARE) Act," amends Tennessee law regarding penalties for driving offenses. The bill introduces a new section to Tennessee Code Annotated, Title 55, Chapter 8, Part 2, which mandates that for non-commercial motor vehicle moving traffic violations, courts must impose a fine of $25, and for commercial motor vehicles, a fine of $50. These fines will be collected by the court clerk and deposited into the state highway fund to support maintenance and infrastructure improvements of public roads and highways.
Additionally, the bill amends Section 55-10-403 by adding a new subsection that requires a $100 fine for individuals convicted of driving under the influence of an intoxicant. If a person is convicted of both DUI and a moving traffic violation, only the $100 DUI fine will be assessed, and the additional fines for the moving violation will not apply. The act is set to take effect on July 1, 2026, and will apply to offenses committed on or after that date.
