House Joint Resolution 718, sponsored by Clemmons, honors the CSX Santa Train for its long-standing tradition of bringing joy and hope to children in need across Appalachia. For 83 years, this cherished holiday event has made a 110-mile journey through Kentucky, Virginia, and Tennessee, where Santa and his elves distribute toys, backpacks filled with supplies, and spread Christmas cheer to families along the route. In 2025 alone, the Santa Train provided over 15,000 toys, 6,000 train safety books, and 5,000 bags of cold-weather gear, showcasing the significant impact it has on the community.

The resolution acknowledges the dedicated volunteers, CSX employees, and community partners, such as Appalachian Power and Food City, who contribute to the success of the Santa Train each year. It emphasizes the importance of this charitable event in uplifting the spirits of children who may not otherwise receive gifts during the holiday season. The General Assembly expresses its gratitude and recognition of the CSX Santa Train's compassionate service to the Central Appalachian region.
